Updates

It has been one year since the last time I posted.  In the meantime, the m4/3 Olympus system has been sold away.  The worst part was having left the Olympus 75mm F1.8.  A few months later, I saw an Olympus EM5II Titanium Limited Edition and bought it at a good price.  The best part was two days later, a guy asked about the 75mm lens.  So I said ok and was looking for an Olympus 45mm F1.8 instead.  This buyer had one in mint and new condition and he paid me via the 45mm lens and $400 in cash.  I used the combination for about a month and decided to sell away as I wanted to concentrate on one system.

A week later, Nelson from The Camera Workshop showed me a near mint Pentax LX that the shop had for sale.  The owner was a Japanese guy who wanted $480 for it and Daniel asked me to give a price that I was willing to pay and I quoted $550.  I was now the new owner of the LX, but there was no grip.  I took it over and did looked for a grip for the LX.

In the meantime, we were joking on the Whatsapp chat group about the smallness of the Q system and Bernard said he still had his.  I pmed him and got the Q7 together with the 01 standard prime, the 02 zoom and the 06 telephoto lenses at a good price.

At the next outing, I managed to poison Philip, an ex-Q owner like myself and James's wife into getting a Q7/Q-S1.  I asked Ben if he had a spare Pentax Grip B when we met up for our usual outing and he told me he had one.  During the next outing, he passed me the grip and messaged me the price of the grip.  I was elated as it cost less than $100.  Then I looked for the loops to complete the look and found a pair on Buyjapon at about $80, which was less than the one on eBay.

The Q7 is so different from the previous Q that I used as it has a wider view as the sensor is 1/1/7" instead of the original 1/2.3" of the Q.  It is really light enough to carry around inside my messenger bag and bring along to work.  I even used it for a staff games day last week and the results were very good as I could play with RAW files like my K1/KP.

I finally had the chance to test out the LX with a roll of film and hope to complete the film by the end of next week.

That's all for today!

Updates on my Photography Journey

After using the Olympus 12-40/2.8 PRO lens for 3 months, I decided to sell away as I got the 12-32/3.5-5.6 from a buddy for travel.

Got itchy and bought a Panasonic GX8 as I quite liked the tilting viewfinder and then got the Panasonic 12-60/3.5-5.6.  Tried the lens on the EM5II but it kept giving over exposed shots when the same setting did not affect the other lenses I have.

In the end, I sold the 12-60mm to another buddy who was looking for it for his Panasonic GX85 body.  I got poisoned and started looking for the body too, but was dissuaded from buyiong it unless I do a lot of videos.

The buddy who got me into m43 persuaded me to buy his Panasonic Leica 15mm F1.7 and I found it to be a good lens, but I kind of missed the WR of the 12-40/2.8 and so I used the money instead for another 12-40/2.8 as I missed the wider end.  I also sold away the 12-32mm as I had no use for it.  So I feel that my m43 lust has been completed.

I then got a friend to buy for me the battery grip for the K1 so that I can use it in portrait mode easily.  Price had gone down and it was with it.  Next was getting another beauty dish for my other strobe as well as a Bowens adapter for it.  Will be trying out the collapsable beauty dish soon at another portrait shoot.

Olympus 12-40mm F2.8

Spotted this lens on Carousell SG and contacted the seller.  Wanted the pouch to go with it but he did not have it anymore.  So I decided to wait until he found it.  Turns out he sold to his colleague but the colleague wanted to pay by installments which he did not agree to and he contacted me to see if I was still keen.

I told him that I was an to deal on Monday afternoon but he had to go for a course and he personally drove to my workplace to pass it to me.

The lens is in wonderful mint condition.  For the price I paid, it was a bargain price which cannot be found on the internet or elsewhere.

I am a very happy man now.  My Olympus lens collection is complete.  Olympus OMD EM5 Mk II, Olympus 12-40mm F2.8 PRO, Olympus 45mm F1.8 and Olympus 75mm F1.8 as I am more a portrait shooter than a landscape shooter.

Also received the PK to m43 adapter from eBay that I bought to try with manual lenses.

Will update once I have time to shoot.

Olympus 75mm F1.8

Managed to get my hands on a mint copy of the Silver/Chrome Olympus 75mm F1.8.  It is very sharp at wide open at F1.8.

Will test this lens out tomorrow in school.

Olympus OMD EM5 MkII

Recently, I was looking at the Clubsnap Buy & Sell thread and came across the OMD EM5 MkII at reasonable prices.  I managed to get one for a good price and it was only a few months into its warranty.
I also managed to get the Olympus 45mm F1.8 from another seller for a reasonable price which was even lower than what others were selling and it was a few days into its warranty.
I wanted to save up for the Olympus 12-40mm F2.8 but a friend suggested to get the kit lens 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 to familiarise myself with the camera first.

Bye Bye Beetle! We WILL MISS You!

It has been fun driving you.  You were meant for my son, by alas, he found you too difficult to handle.  I became the defacto owner instead.  While I treasured you, you have given me a bunch of issues that only an old car has.

The family will definitely miss you since it has been part of my darling wife's family since her dad got it in October 1976.  It is now May 2017, and you are coming to be 42 years old this October.  Since you have been fixed for all sorts of minor breakdowns, I believe that you are now much safer to drive.

Soon you will be going to a new home and a new owner.  I hope he cherishes you like how we did.

Adios my dear Beetle!

Finally sold on the 17th of May 2017.
